Palitaw is made from glutinous rice and water, coated with grated coconut and sprinkled with sugar and sesame seeds. Palitaw is a sweet and chewable flattened oval rice cake that is said to be a good luck symbol because of its name, litaw being a Tagalog rootword meaning "to appear".
